Today, I put together a few of the steps I'd been playing with over the month.
First, I made a monochrome bitmap heart, using the different textures for shading:
Then, I edited it as a colored .png picture, and changed all the black to light pink.
And last, I went over to Zazzle, and experimented with putting the image on a tee-shirt, with the setting to "make all white transparent," so the dark of the tee-shirt color will show through where the white was in the original:
(The words, in this case, are using the preloaded fonts that Zazzle provides, with a duplicate drop shadow, to make sure the words stand out, behind them -- getting them to line up right was the really fuzzy bit!)
I have to confess I've been obsessively ficcing- just paused to count up- 40,626 words in August, spread over 8 fics (one I'm still working on, all the others complete)
Yeah, as much as I like actually full-fledged pictures for wearable art/messages, they never turn out very well when printed on a shirt by the process that Zazzle uses.
And a lot of the products that end up selling well (other than the officially licensed stuff from major companies like Disney and Marvel comics) are mostly just words with no art or images at all (and often, not even a creative use of fonts).
So that's why I decided to try changing my approach. One: Words are my strong suit, anyway, and Two: I'll have less bruising to my ego when a picture I spent hours composing gets completely ignored.
And for those who don't know why I place the text high on the chest -- such as all professional tee-shirt designers ever -- it's because if you use a wheelchair (or even if you have a body type with boobs ... or worse, both), the words get lost under the seat belt (or folds of the fabric, with boobage), and you never see them.
And a mighty ficcing amount too! I was bunnied by not quite perfect fic reading last night into coming up with two fics. Art = more creativity all round?
