Not An Ocean

I am not happy with this one. But it's what I did today, so here it is.



The background is a scanned-in piece of fluid art I did a while back (so that doesn't count as work done today). I thought I'd play around with shadows and contours but I don't like the result. It just doesn't fit harmoniously with the fluid art. I guess I've learned something: this method doesn't work.

Some days art just won't cooperate. I think it's a good mood piece, though. Stormy day blues. :^)

It could almost be a type of marble. With fewer contours it might have been more what you were aiming for?

I'll be going back to the drawing board with this one, I think. As in, no contours, do something completely different with it. I mean, I really like the fluid art base, love the colours, I just need to think of something else to do with it which will change it from "random colours" to "something with purpose". But that will be for another day, it's just turned midnight here.

*nods* Sometimes I tweak a basic until it screams, and then I have to start from the beginning. Maybe think what the color means, and then try to figure out how to bring out the meaning. It could be birds on sky, boats on water, wild weather, a rocky cliff, a surfer close up... etc.

Thank you! I do like the textures you can get with Harmony, it's particularly nice for horse hides. :^)

Oh it's lovely. I'm even more impressed now that I know how awkward Harmony is.

Thank you! :^) I accidentally discovered that the 'squares' tool can be used as fill in, if you take it slow and in small motions. That one can easily bork the work, so it's iffy. I did it on the hooves.

WC=wine and charcuterie

Taken from the top deck of a bus in London.

As I'm not sure it's the same in every variety of English: WC=toilet. This is clearly an underground public toilet that was closed down (like so many public toilets) and has turned into a wine bar.

Hah, so they kept the Water Closet and just changed the meaning. Very fun. I love the wonderfully dense imagery in this photo and the cut off of the picture encouraging the eye to land on the WC sign.
