I played with digital art for the first time this month, just making some ellipses and choosing colours I liked. My colour inspiration came from discovering that gentian violet is still in medicinal use for animal treatment - and from getting some on my hand! It is very purple stuff.
Part of my brain is trying to make a it a face, but the August part sees it as vegetables at a village show, lol. I like the colours together and the balance of shapes in the frame.
Still life with aubergine and courgette! I logged in to comment using a different screen, and the violently violet background looks blue - not at all the effect I was aiming for. Maybe I need to do colour calibration on my monitor.
I agree the flowers in the first are more pleasing and the general positioning in the second is better. I'm not sure I like the bear staring directly at the viewer though, because his eyes are a bit unnerving.
I posted them both on flickr and the lego groups and, like here, everyone seems to prefer the colour in the first and the pose in the second. I finally worked out that I think she's extra cute because she subconsciously reminds me of Strawberry Switchblade, lol. /old
Tried out the 'crayon' tool in sketch.io. Very versatile, you can adjust the width, and the opacity, and you can make the outline different color from the fill, and you can choose from colors, or a set of gradients, or a set of patterns. I mostly went with simple gradients with orange or black or white borders (the white borders on white background work as erasers- and yes, you can change the background, too.)
Fascinating technique in these, thank you for explaining. The zebra especially appeals to me. She's almost a three dimensional optical illusion if I narrow my eyes.
It takes a bit of fiddling to get it just right, of course, because wherever there's "white" you can see through it. So you have to work out exactly where all the borders between regions are, and draw those in before you fill them in. And then, if you make a mistake, you have to start over...
