The idea for this was born in one of my graduate-level English courses at university... in a survey class (the Romantics) that ran from 7 - 10 pm, once a week. ..."This work is problematic, for reasons X, Y, and Z" was a common discussion opener... And, 'round about the 9 o'clock mark, I'd start to imagine a gadget that's sold on late night infomercials. ;-)
Though it runs better when lubricated by a steady supply of hot coffee, and various carbohydrates from vending machines in the university's gathering places.
(oh, and a steady breeze of hot air doesn't hurt either!) ;-)
I'd almost forgotten about this (I first had this idea more than 25 years ago. But then, last year, I joined Tumblr, and came across the "problematic fave" memes all over my dashboard...
this is really cool and clever! i love the concept and your idea behind it. the art style is really fun and reminds me of some computer games i played as a kid! great work!
I fell back on doing another map of an imaginary place. Doing a long squiggly coastline is very soothing. This time I smudged some soft pencil and green pencil around to make the terrain look a bit more interesting.
I have a small collection of fantasy maps saved on my computer, from various books or computer games; the Earthsea one is a favourite and has been my desktop wallpaper at times.
Thanks! I have a fantasy story percolating in my head that really needs a geographical setting in order to start hammering out the plot; I feel I'll be able to start writing the story once I've drawn a map I'm happy with. Because I can't write about the characters before I know where they're from, and I can't send them on a journey through blank white space!
I did a pair of lips. Photos will be posted at some point but no uploads for the moment. I liked it until I did shadows and it looked like a mustache on the lips, but if you don't try you don't learn I guess!

So I knew I had to do a remake, eventually.
